One of the things I loved about growing up in the 80′s was the focus on child-like playfulness and adventure. This playfulness even radiated off more teen and adult oriented movies in titles like Caddy Shack and Jumpin’ Jack Flash. Back then it wasn’t about high-budget digital effected action scenes, it was about the characters, story and feeling good.
My movie choices are based around this playfulness along with their special geekiness since that’s what this blog is all about.

Adventures in Babysitting
Adventures in Babysitting
What do you get when you mix one babysitter, two kids, the annoying kid next door and a runaway best friend? Adventure, that’s what!
The story revolves around Chris (played by Elisabeth Shue), an atypical teenager and her babysitting charges Sara and Brad as they innocently try and rescue a friend from a sketchy Chicago bus station. Unfortunately after her car breaks down she and the kids – including the annoying neighbor played by a young Anthony Rapp – are thrown into a bizarre escapade of trying to get Chris’ friend, getting home before the parents and running away from a group of gangsters. Phew, that’s a lot of pressure on a 17 year old. Keep Reading »

Tropic Thunder
After work today I decided to blow off my usual Monday afternoon responsibilities and head to the mall. After grabbing some cookies from Mrs. Fields I was walking back toward the Skytrain when the urge to watch a movie washed over me. Here is a list of comic books that I would recommend reading. This is not a list of my top books since that would take me a long, long time to decide which ones I liked most and in what order. This is just a list of books I can think of at this particular moment in time that I think are great reads.

Lex Luther: Man of Steel
In this telling of the Superman/ Lex Luther tale, we get to see Lex’s point of view on the arrival of his nemisis. It gives the reader insight on a human’s perspective on the presence of this “greater” being that is treated as a God.
I recently lent this book to a friend of mine who is a giant Superman fan (he and I fight over Batman/ Superman stuff all the time) and he actually admitted that this book really made him look at his hero in a whole new light. It excited me to hear this and it made me appreciate the story that much more.
Finally, a story that removes the boyscout exterior that has been built up around the Man of Steel.

Cookie Party - Sarah Silverman Program
Inspired by The Sarah Silverman Program, on Tuesday August 12th my friends and I participated in the very first Cookie Party!
If you have never seen The Sarah Silverman Program you have no idea what I’m talking about. Well, on the show Sarah and her sister are huge fans of a television show called Cookie Party which is hosted by a cross dressing “Miniature Coffee” and features two teams in a battle of the cookie. As fans of both Sarah Silverman and cookies my friends decided to have a cookie party of their own.
